speak to me in english or hebrew, or if you're feeling adventurous and love watching linguistic train wrecks, spanish or arabic.

tumblr, i am seeking your help.

my suitmate wrote “صحتين وعافية” on our communal whiteboard, and is leaving me to figure out the non-literal meaning.  the barebones translation is “two healths and forgiveness,” but i’m really curious.  can someone help me out with it?

This is a little something I made while studying for my Arabic quiz on Sunday night.  The heading says “CHICKEN,” and the chicken is saying, you guessed it, “DOOR.”The next morning my Palestinian suitemate left his commentary at the bottom, which I can’t read because the only words I know involve greetings, chickens, and doors.  Someone help me out?
EDIT: I KNOW WHAT IT SAYS NOWHE WROTE “VERY BEAUTIFUL”THAT’S SO NICE OF HIM

‎”This letter…is also similar to the sound you make when you gargle. Gargle for a minute and pay attention to the muscles that you use.”

I want to write Arabic textboooks when I grow up.  Their section on the 3ayin was pure poetry as well.

My conversation skills in

English:

  • “I think his goal in adapting the play was to not only make the already-relatable story more approachable for the modern American audience, but to deconstruct the cliched modern high school bildungsroman we’re so familiar with as a culture, as well.”

Hebrew:

  • “Oh, you’re not hungry because you went to a party?  For whom was the party?  Was it fun?  I’m glad it was fun for you.  I also eat a lot at parties.”

Arabic:

  • Hello, my name is Linda.  I am from New Jersey.  It is nice to meet you.  Door.”
